🚨 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport: Emergency Neutral
The 2023 Discovery Sport uses a console-mounted rotary dial shifter (Terrain Response dial is separate) or traditional lever shifter depending on trim level.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- If the battery has some charge, turn the ignition to ON (press start button without brake pedal).
- Press and hold the brake pedal, then attempt to rotate the dial to Neutral (if rotary) or move the lever to N.
- If the shifter will not release due to shift interlock failure, locate the shift lock override.
- For console lever shifters: Remove the small plastic cap on the console near the base of the shifter (typically forward and to the right of the shifter base).
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter to N.
- For rotary dial shifters: Consult the owner's manual for the specific override procedure, as the mechanical override location varies and may require partial console trim removal.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
For lever shifters: small cap-covered slot near the shifter base on the console; for rotary dial shifters: location requires owner's manual reference or partial console removal
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock override must be used. The rotary dial shifter may require more extensive disassembly to access the mechanical override. If you cannot access the override, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground using a wheel dolly or dragging system.
