🚨 2025 Land Rover Discovery: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 Discovery uses a rotary gear selector dial that rises from the center console when the ignition is on.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- If you have any 12V power, turn the ignition to ON/ACC position—the rotary dial will rise and you can rotate it to Neutral normally
- If completely dead with no power: locate the shift lock override access panel on the center console, typically a small square rubber cap or cover directly adjacent to the rotary dial base
- Carefully pry off the override cover cap using a flat tool or your fingernail
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, manually rotate the gear selector dial counterclockwise to the Neutral position
- If the dial will not rise or rotate due to complete power loss, you may need to use a jump pack or external 12V power source to momentarily energize the system to release the shifter
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved—ensure someone is controlling the brake pedal or use wheel chocks
- For flatbed loading, always load with all four wheels on the deck due to the full-time AWD system
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot adjacent to the base of the rotary dial on the center console, usually to the right side of the dial housing
With zero electrical power
With zero power, the rotary dial may not rise and the electronic shifter may be completely locked. A jump pack or external 12V source connected to the battery or jump points may be necessary to momentarily power the shifter mechanism. The override slot should still mechanically release the lock, but physical dial movement requires some electrical function.
