🚨 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque: Emergency Neutral
The 2019 Range Rover Evoque (first generation, final year) uses a rotary dial gear selector that rises from the center console when the ignition is turned on.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- If battery power is available, turn the ignition to ON position—the rotary dial will rise from the console
- The rotary dial should allow selection to Neutral with ignition on and brake pedal pressed
- If the shift interlock is preventing Neutral selection, locate the shift-lock override: remove the small rubber mat or cover in the cupholder area directly forward of the rotary dial
- Underneath this cover is a small slot—insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or the metal key blade into the slot and press down while rotating the dial to Neutral
- If absolutely no battery power is available, you may need to manually lower the rotary dial (it may stay retracted) and access the manual release mechanism under the console trim, which requires partial disassembly
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the rotary dial will not rise from the console, making Neutral selection extremely difficult without electrical power. The mechanical override is intended for shift-lock failures, not complete power loss. If the battery is completely dead, jump-starting or connecting a booster pack to get minimal power to raise the dial and engage Neutral is the most practical solution. Otherwise, the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed with wheels locked.
