🚨 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 Range Rover Evoque (second generation) uses a rotary dial gear selector mounted on the center console with mild-hybrid electric system standard on most trims.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- If battery power is available, turn the ignition to ON position—the rotary dial will be active
- Rotate the dial to Neutral position with the brake pedal pressed
- If the shift interlock is preventing Neutral selection, locate the shift-lock override: it is typically a small access slot near the base of the rotary dial, often under a small rubber cover or cap
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or the metal key blade to press the override release while rotating the dial to Neutral
- If no battery power is available, providing even minimal 12V power (jump pack or trickle charger) to activate the rotary dial electronics is strongly recommended
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the rotary dial electronics will not function and the transmission will remain locked in Park. The mild-hybrid system makes this generation particularly dependent on electrical power. Connecting a booster pack or jump-starting to provide minimal 12V power is the most reliable method. Without any power, the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed with all wheels locked.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The 2021 Evoque includes a 48-volt mild-hybrid system on most trims. This does not prevent towing, but the vehicle should be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground to avoid any potential electrical feedback or drivetrain damage. Do not attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground.
