🚨 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Velar: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 Range Rover Velar uses a rotary dial gear selector that rises from the center console when the ignition is on.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied.
- If the battery has any charge, press the brake pedal and turn the ignition to ON/ACC position - the rotary dial will rise from the console.
- With the brake pedal pressed, rotate the dial counterclockwise to select Neutral.
- If the shifter is locked due to a failed brake-light switch or shift interlock, locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small covered opening located on the lower left side of the center console near the base of the rotary dial.
- Remove the small rubber or plastic cap covering the override slot using a trim tool or flathead screwdriver.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the override slot and push down firmly.
- While holding the override down, turn the ignition to ON (if possible) and rotate the dial to Neutral.
- If successful, the transmission will be in Neutral and you can release the parking brake to move the vehicle.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the rotary dial will not rise from the console and the shift lock override may not function. In this case, you will need to jump-start the vehicle or connect a battery booster to provide enough power to activate the shifter mechanism and release the shift lock. Once minimal power is available, follow the override procedure above.
