The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available
- Locate the shift-lock override button: it is a small yellow or red button/cap located on the lower left side of the shifter gate, near the base of the shifter console
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to press down firmly on the shift-lock override button
- While holding the override button down, press the brake pedal (if power is available) and move the shifter to Neutral
- If no battery power is available, you may need to use more force on the override button while simultaneously manipulating the shifter—the mechanical override will disengage the lock pawl
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed
