🚨 2016 Lexus LS 600h: Emergency Neutral

The 2016 LS 600h uses a traditional gated console-mounted shift lever with electronic shift-lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
  2. Turn the ignition to ON/ACC mode if 12V power is available (press START button without brake pedal)
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular access cover on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's seat
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the override cover
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while pulling the shifter out of Park
  6. Move shifter to Neutral position
  7. If 12V power is completely dead, you must jump-start the 12V auxiliary battery (located in the trunk) or connect an external power source to access ignition-on mode first—the shift-lock is electronically controlled and requires some electrical power
  8. For towing: engage NEUTRAL tow mode through the multi-information display if the hybrid system can power up; otherwise flatbed transport is required

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift-lock override will not function. You must restore minimal 12V power by jump-starting the auxiliary battery in the trunk or connecting a battery booster to the underhood jump terminals before the override will work.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID VEHICLE: The LS 600h has a complex hybrid transaxle. Flatbed towing is STRONGLY recommended. If you must dolly-tow, the front wheels must be OFF the ground and the transmission must be confirmed in NEUTRAL tow mode via the display system. Improper towing will cause severe hybrid system damage. Do not tow with rear wheels raised.
