The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to ON (or ACC) position if 12V power is available
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular or square plastic cover on the upper right side of the shifter surround, near where the shifter meets the console trim
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the exposed slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral
- If 12V power is completely dead, you must restore minimal power first—the electronic shift-lock requires some electrical current to release even with the override
