🚨 2021 Lexus NX 300: Emergency Neutral

The 2021 NX 300 uses a conventional electronic console-mounted shift lever with a linear gate (P-R-N-D-S) and button on the side for shifting.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and parking brake is engaged (or vehicle is chocked if no power for parking brake)
  2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn to ACC or ON position if battery has any residual charge
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small covered slot on the left side of the shifter base, near the front of the center console
  4. Remove the small cap/cover from the shift lock override slot by prying gently with a flathead screwdriver or trim tool
  5. While pressing the brake pedal (if vehicle has power) OR while inserting a small screwdriver or key into the override slot and pressing down, move the shift lever from Park to Neutral
  6. If using the override with no power: insert tool into override slot, press down firmly, and simultaneously move the shifter to Neutral
  7. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded onto a flatbed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery: turn key to ACC position if possible (may not work with zero power). Use the shift lock override slot with a small screwdriver or key inserted and pressed down while moving the shifter. The override mechanically releases the shift lock solenoid.
