🚨 2016 Lexus NX 300h: Emergency Neutral

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chocked on all wheels (parking brake may not hold with dead 12V battery)
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ACC or ON position using the key if any residual battery charge exists
- Locate the shift lock override slot: small covered slot on the left side of the shifter base near the front
- Remove the small cap covering the override slot using a flathead screwdriver or trim tool
- With no power: insert a small screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter from Park to Neutral
- If some battery power exists: press brake pedal and shift normally, or use override if brake-light switch has failed
- Verify the shift position indicator shows 'N' if any display power is available
- Vehicle can now be rolled or loaded onto flatbed

With dead 12V battery: the hybrid system will not activate, but mechanical override still works. Insert tool into shift lock override slot, press down, and move shifter to Neutral. Do NOT attempt to 'jump start' the hybrid system just to shift - use the mechanical override.

CRITICAL: NX 300h is a hybrid. If the 12V battery is dead, the hybrid system will not engage. For towing more than 50 feet, the vehicle MUST be on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground. Towing with front wheels on the ground (even in Neutral) will cause severe damage to the hybrid transaxle. Do not use tow dollies - flatbed only.
