🚨 2010-2024 Lexus RX 350: Emergency Neutral
The RX 350 from 2010-2024 spans three generations with different shifter designs: 2010-2015 uses conventional cable-operated lever, 2016-2022 uses electronic shift-by-wire lever, and 2023-2024 uses a new electronic shifter design.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- FOR 2010-2015 MODELS: Ensure the parking brake is set. Locate the shift lock override—a small capped slot on the left side of the shifter base. Pry off the cap, insert the key blade or screwdriver, press down firmly, and move the shifter to N while holding the override. This works even without 12V power due to mechanical cable operation.
- FOR 2016-2022 MODELS: Set the parking brake. Locate the shift lock override slot on the console near the shifter base (typically right side or front). Pry off the small cap. Turn ignition to ON/ACC if possible. Insert key blade into the override slot, press down, and move shifter to N. NOTE: These electronic shifters require at least some 12V power for the override to function—with complete power loss, only flatbed towing is safe.
- FOR 2023-2024 MODELS: Set the parking brake. Locate the shift lock override (check right side of shifter base for a small capped access). Turn ignition to ON if possible. Insert key blade into override slot, press down, and attempt to shift to N. These use fully electronic shift-by-wire; the override may only work with 12V power present. If no power at all, flatbed towing is required.
- In all cases, if the vehicle has hybrid variants (RX 450h), be aware those models may have additional electrical requirements and tow-mode procedures—consult hybrid-specific instructions.
Shift-lock override location
2010-2015: Left side of shifter base. 2016-2022: Varies, typically right side or front of shifter base console area. 2023-2024: Near shifter base, likely right side—check for small capped access point.
With zero electrical power
2010-2015: Override works mechanically without power; steering will lock so straighten wheels first. 2016-2022: Electronic shifter requires some 12V power for override to function; with zero power, flatbed only. 2023-2024: Electronic shift-by-wire likely requires 12V power; without power, override will not function and flatbed towing is necessary. In complete power-loss situations for electronic models (2016+), do NOT attempt to move the vehicle with wheels on ground.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
If your RX is a hybrid model (450h or 450h+), different procedures may apply. Hybrid models from 2016+ use electronic transmission controls that absolutely require 12V power for any neutral engagement. Complete power loss means flatbed-only towing for hybrids—attempting to tow with wheels down will cause severe transaxle damage.
