The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- With the ignition off and no power, locate the shift lock override access—typically a small rectangular cap or cover on the lower right side of the shifter base console.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Inside the access hole, insert the screwdriver or a key and press down on the shift lock override mechanism while simultaneously moving the shift lever.
- The transmission should mechanically release, allowing you to move the shifter to Neutral position.
- If the vehicle has any 12V power available, turn the ignition to ON (press START without brake pedal twice), then shift normally to Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed—DO NOT tow with wheels on the ground.
