The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (use wheel chocks as primary safety).
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available (press POWER button without brake pedal once or twice).
- Locate the shift lock override—look for a small covered slot or access point near the shifter base, typically on the left side or front-left of the shifter assembly.
- Remove the shift lock override cover carefully using a flathead screwdriver or trim tool.
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter unlock button (if equipped) and move the shifter to Neutral position.
- If no power is available, the override may require more force—hold override down and apply firm pressure to shift lever while attempting to move to Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can roll; maintain override pressure until vehicle is secured or positioned.
