🚨 2025 Lexus RZ 450e: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 RZ 450e uses an electronic shift-by-wire system with a small console-mounted lever or dial (depending on trim) that returns to center position after each input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chock all wheels securely
- If 12V battery has any charge, press the power button twice without touching the brake pedal to enter accessory mode
- With accessory mode active, press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Move the shift lever or rotate the dial to the N (Neutral) position
- If the shift lever does not respond, look for a small shift-lock override slot or button near the base of the shifter—it may be under a small removable cap
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot and press down while simultaneously moving the shifter to N
- If successful in getting to neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched with all four wheels on the ground for SHORT distances only (under 1 mile at very low speed)
- For distances beyond immediate repositioning, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground—improper towing will destroy the electric drive system
Shift-lock override location
Likely near the shifter base under a small cap, but exact location not confirmed for 2025 RZ—consult owner's manual or look for a small rectangular cover near the shifter console
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter will not function and the shift-lock override may also be inoperative. Jump-start the 12V battery (located in the rear cargo area or under hood—check owner's manual) to at least get accessory power, then follow the steps above. If jump-starting is impossible, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed using wheel dollies or a winch.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The RZ 450e is AWD with front and rear electric motors. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground for distances beyond immediate repositioning (under 1 mile at walking speed). The motors are directly connected to the wheels and will generate damaging voltage and heat if rotated by towing. Flatbed transport with all four wheels off the ground is mandatory for any real distance.
