🚨 2021 Lincoln Corsair: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 Corsair (including PHEV models) uses a monostable rotary gear selector dial on the center console that requires electrical power to operate.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Connect a jump starter or jumper cables to restore 12V power - the rotary dial shifter is electrically actuated and will NOT function without power
- Turn the ignition to ON (press start button without brake pedal twice, or use jump power)
- Press the brake pedal firmly
- Rotate the gear selector dial counterclockwise to the N (Neutral) position
- If the dial will not rotate, look for a small circular shift lock override cover on the center console near the dial base
- Pry off the override cover, insert a screwdriver or key into the slot, and press down while rotating the dial to Neutral

With zero electrical power
CRITICAL: This vehicle REQUIRES 12V power to shift. The rotary dial is fully electronic with no direct mechanical linkage. You must jump-start the 12V battery or connect an external power source before you can shift to Neutral. Without power, the transmission remains locked in Park electronically. A mechanical override may exist but its function is limited - full electrical power is the proper solution.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
PHEV models: Before towing, ensure the high-voltage system is OFF (vehicle fully shut down). The 12V battery is separate from the high-voltage battery. Even with 12V power restored, extended towing MUST be done on a flatbed - do not tow with wheels on ground beyond loading onto the flatbed. The electric drive system can be damaged by wheel rotation when unpowered. For very short distances (onto a flatbed), engage Neutral through the powered shifter as described.
