🚨 2015 Maserati Ghibli: Emergency Neutral

The 2015 Ghibli uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter lever with electronic shift lock tied to the brake pedal and ignition.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side of the center console
  4. Use a flat-head screwdriver or the metal end of the ignition key to pry off the rubber/plastic cover cap
  5. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral
  7. If the steering is locked and you cannot turn the wheel, you will need to unlock it before loading - this may require jump-starting the 12V battery temporarily
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. However, the steering column will remain locked. For flatbed loading with locked steering, the vehicle must be loaded with front wheels on dollies or the battery must be temporarily boosted to unlock the steering column before loading.
