🚨 2026 Mazda CX-3: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Mazda CX-3 uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining.
  3. Firmly depress and hold the brake pedal.
  4. Locate the shift lock override slot—typically a small covered opening near the base of the shifter or on the left side of the shifter assembly.
  5. Remove the cover cap by prying gently with a flathead screwdriver or similar tool.
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly.
  7. While holding the override down and keeping the brake pedal depressed, move the shifter to Neutral.
  8. The vehicle can now be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the shifter assembly, typically on the left side or front—look for a small rectangular cap that can be pried off
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override is mechanical and will still function. You do not need battery power to use the override slot. Ensure the parking brake is engaged before attempting the override procedure.
