🚨 2026 Mazda CX-30: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 CX-30 is expected to retain the traditional console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is firmly engaged.
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining.
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot—it is a small rectangular covered slot on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small cap covering the override slot.
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
  6. If the ignition cannot be powered on, you must still press the override release while moving the shifter—the mechanical linkage will allow movement to Neutral.
  7. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or rolled onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override must still be depressed using a screwdriver or key in the override slot while pulling the shifter release button and moving to Neutral. The mechanical override works without power, but requires manual force.
