The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked—this is critical as the CX-70 has an electronic parking brake
- Attempt to activate the electrical system: connect a jump pack or jumper cables to restore 12V battery power if the battery is dead
- With power restored, press the brake pedal, turn the ignition to ON (push the start button without pressing the brake if needed to get to ACC/ON mode)
- Press the brake pedal firmly and move the shifter to Neutral
- If the shift interlock still prevents movement, locate the shift lock override—look for a small cover or access panel near the base of the shifter on the center console
- Remove the cover and insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot, press down while pressing the shifter release and move to Neutral
- For plug-in hybrid models: If you need to flat-tow, consult the owner's manual as the CX-70 PHEV should NOT be flat-towed with drive wheels on the ground—use a flatbed or trailer
- If moving onto a flatbed, Neutral is sufficient for short-distance rolling with power available

With zero electrical power
The CX-70 hybrid relies heavily on electrical systems. If 12V power cannot be restored, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels locked—consult a professional as forcing the system can damage electronic components.
