🚨 2020 McLaren 600LT: Emergency Neutral

The 600LT uses McLaren's center console push-button transmission selector (P/R/N/D buttons) requiring 12V power to function.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if possible
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle with the START button - if the 12V battery has sufficient charge, the transmission buttons will illuminate
  3. Press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the center console selector panel
  4. If the 12V system is completely dead, the electronic transmission cannot be shifted and the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed truck with all wheels off the ground
  5. Do NOT attempt to tow this vehicle with any wheels on the ground - the dual-clutch transmission and drivetrain can be severely damaged
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, McLaren's electronic push-button transmission has no mechanical override or emergency release mechanism accessible to the operator. The transmission remains locked in Park. Jump-starting the 12V battery is required to engage Neutral, or the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed. Some specialized recovery operators may access the transmission control module directly, but this requires specialized tools and knowledge.
