🚨 2025 McLaren GT: Emergency Neutral
The 2025 McLaren GT uses a center console-mounted sequential automatic shifter with electronic controls and a physical mechanical release.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the center console near the shifter base—look for a small rubber cap or cover on the right side of the shifter surround.
- If present, pry off the rubber cap using a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to expose the override slot.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you (rearward) to move from Park to Neutral.
- If no electrical power is available and the override does not work, access the transmission itself: open the hood and locate the transmission near the rear of the engine bay.
- On the transmission housing, find the manual release lever or cable (typically a small lever or T-handle)—consult the owner's manual or service documentation for exact location on the 7-speed SSG transmission.
- Manually actuate the transmission release to disengage the parking pawl, allowing the vehicle to roll freely into Neutral for towing.
Shift-lock override location
Small rubber cap on the right side of the shifter surround on the center console; exact position may vary but typically adjacent to the shifter base.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function. Use the mechanical shift lock override first. If unsuccessful, access the transmission manual release under the hood—this requires familiarity with the SSG transmission layout or service manual reference. A jump-start or auxiliary battery connection to restore minimal power is the preferred method.
