- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parking brake is engaged
- If 12V power is available, turn ignition to position II (ON)
- Locate the shift lock override access - look for a small cap or cover near the base of the gear selector on the center console
- Remove the override cap carefully using a small flathead screwdriver
- Insert the emergency key blade or a small flat tool into the override slot
- Press and hold the override mechanism while moving the gear selector to N (Neutral)
- Keep foot on brake pedal during this operation if power is available
