🚨 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-Door: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 AMG GT 4-Door uses a console-mounted electronic shifter lever with a spring-loaded return-to-center design (similar to other Mercedes models with the 9G-TRONIC transmission).

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (or ACC if battery has some charge) - this may allow the shift lock to release if only the brake switch has failed.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Locate the shift lock override access - look for a small covered slot or cap near the base of the shifter assembly on the console.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the access cover.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If successful, you should feel the shifter release and move to the N position.
- Keep your foot on the brake throughout this process.
Shift-lock override location
Small access slot near the base of the shifter console, typically covered by a removable cap - exact location may be on the right side or front of the shifter base
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, you must jump-start the vehicle or connect a battery charger to get at least accessory power before the electronic shifter will release. The shift lock override requires some electrical power to function on this electronic shifter system. If no power is available, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels free-rolling (not in Park mechanically).
