The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition key to position 1 (ACC) or position 2 (ON) if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap located on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side of the center console.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small plastic cover cap.
- Insert the key blade or a flathead screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if possible) and move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- If the shifter still won't move, ensure you are pressing the override fully down while applying firm forward pressure on the shifter button.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override is mechanical and will still function. You do NOT need battery power to use the override - simply remove the cover cap, insert the key blade, press down, and shift to Neutral. The override physically disengages the shift lock solenoid's pawl mechanism.
