The 2004 C32 AMG (W203) uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and ensure the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to position 1 (ACC) or position 2 (ON) if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is covered by a small rectangular plastic cap on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side of the center console.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- With your foot on the brake (if possible) or if no power, insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button on top of the shift lever and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If the steering lock is engaged and you cannot steer, you may need to jump-start the 12V battery to release the steering column lock before moving the vehicle.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override will still work mechanically, but the steering lock will remain engaged. You must jump-start the battery or provide external 12V power to unlock the steering column before safely moving the vehicle under its own wheels. If loading onto a flatbed with locked steering, use wheel dollies or drag the vehicle straight onto the bed.
