The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is applied and vehicle is on level ground
- Attempt to start vehicle or turn ignition to ON if battery has minimal charge
- Press brake pedal and try normal shifter operation first
- If shifter does not respond, locate the shift lock override access
- Remove the small circular or rectangular cap on the right side of the shifter base
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool into the exposed override slot
- Press the override release down firmly while attempting to move shifter to Neutral
- If completely dead with no electrical response, vehicle must be placed on flatbed - the electronic shifter requires some 12V power for the solenoid to release

The W206 electronic shifter requires at least minimal 12V power to energize the shift lock solenoid.
