🚨 2025 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 C43 AMG (W206) uses a compact electronic console shifter with drive-by-wire operation.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is applied and vehicle is on level ground
  2. Attempt to start vehicle or turn ignition to ON if battery has minimal charge
  3. Press brake pedal and try normal shifter operation first
  4. If shifter does not respond, locate the shift lock override access
  5. Remove the small circular or rectangular cap on the right side of the shifter base
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool into the exposed override slot
  7. Press the override release down firmly while attempting to move shifter to Neutral
  8. If completely dead with no electrical response, vehicle must be placed on flatbed - the electronic shifter requires some 12V power for the solenoid to release

With zero electrical power
The W206 electronic shifter requires at least minimal 12V power to energize the shift lock solenoid. With completely dead battery, jump-starting the 12V system (battery in trunk or rear) is necessary for the override to function. If jump-start is impossible, flatbed towing is required - do not attempt to force the shifter.
