🚨 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2008 C63 AMG (W204 generation, first year) uses a console-mounted electronic gear selector lever with 7-speed automatic transmission and electronic shift interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and ensure the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to position II (ignition on) if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override: on the W204, look for a small covered slot on the left side of the shifter assembly base.
- Use the mechanical key or a small flathead screwdriver to remove the plastic cover from the override slot.
- Insert the screwdriver or key straight down into the override slot and press firmly.
- While holding the override mechanism down, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral position.
- Once in Neutral, remove the tool from the override slot and replace the cover.
- If vehicle has no power at all, steering lock will engage—flatbed transport is required.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery: unlock the driver's door with the mechanical key blade (hidden in key fob). Do NOT turn the ignition as the electronic steering lock (ESL) will attempt to engage and may fail in locked position. Use the shift override to move to Neutral, but be aware the steering will be locked. Vehicle MUST be loaded onto a flatbed—the W204 electronic steering lock cannot be manually released and prevents wheel turning.
