🚨 2017 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2017 C63 AMG (W205 generation) uses a console-mounted electronic gear selector with a small lever design and 7-speed or 9-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift-by-wire system.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and ensure the vehicle is on level ground or properly chocked.
- If battery has any charge, press the start/stop button without pressing the brake pedal to achieve at least accessory mode or ignition on.
- Locate the shift lock override access: look for a small rectangular or circular cover on the lower left side of the shifter base assembly.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert a screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override mechanism down, attempt to move the shifter to Neutral (you may need to press the brake if any power is available).
- Once successfully in Neutral, remove the tool and replace the override cover.
- If completely dead, be aware the electronic steering lock will prevent wheel turning—flatbed required.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery: use the emergency key blade (in key fob) to unlock the door. The W205 uses an electronic steering lock (ESL) that will engage with no power. Shift override will allow you to move the shifter to Neutral, but the steering wheel will be locked solid. Vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed or with all four wheels off the ground (dollies)—do not attempt flat towing as steering cannot turn and drivetrain should not rotate without transmission power.
