🚨 2021 Mercedes-Benz CLA: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 CLA uses a column-mounted stalk shifter on the right side of the steering column, typical of modern Mercedes-Benz DCT-equipped vehicles.

The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is firmly engaged.
- Insert the key fob into the ignition slot (right side of steering column) if not already inserted.
- If battery has some charge, press brake pedal and attempt to press the START/STOP button to accessory mode (do NOT start engine) to enable the electronic shifter.
- Move the column stalk shifter down once to engage neutral (down = N, up = R, push forward = D).
- If completely dead with no electrical power, locate the shift lock override access point: Remove the small rectangular trim panel on the underside of the steering column shroud, near the column stalk base.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the shift lock release slot visible after removing the panel.
- While holding the release override, manipulate the shifter stalk downward to neutral.
- If the steering lock is engaged and you cannot steer, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the front wheels off the ground.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function normally. You must use the mechanical shift lock override under the column shroud. The steering lock will also be engaged, preventing steering. A flatbed tow with front wheels up is required if the car must be moved any distance.
