The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to position 1 (ACC) or 2 (ON) if battery power is available—this is required for the electronic shifter release.
- Locate the shift lock override access: on the right side of the shifter base (passenger side), there is a small rectangular cap or cover approximately 1 inch square.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the metal key blade or a small screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button on top of the lever and move the shifter to Neutral.
- Release the override mechanism and reinstall the cap.
- The vehicle can now be rolled or towed with the transmission in Neutral.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the electronic shifter will not function even with the override—the transmission solenoids require at least ignition position 1. Without any power, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the transmission in Park using wheel dollies or a skate system.
