🚨 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: Emergency Neutral

The procedure
- Ensure vehicle is on level surface and engage parking brake (note: this is an electronic parking brake)
- Turn ignition to position 1 or 2 (ACC or ON) if any battery charge remains
- Locate the shift lock release access point on the right side of the steering column shroud, near the base of the shifter stalk
- There should be a small cover or access panel—gently pry it open with a flathead screwdriver or key blade
- Insert the key blade or small screwdriver into the shift lock override slot beneath the cover
- Press and hold the override mechanism while moving the column shifter stalk to the neutral position
- If battery has some charge, press the brake pedal while performing this operation

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the mechanical shift lock override will still function to place transmission in neutral. However, the W464 G-Class has an electronic parking brake (EPB) that will remain engaged without power. You may need to manually release the EPB using the emergency release procedure (typically involves removing rear cargo trim to access release cables). Steering lock will also remain engaged. Flatbed transport is mandatory—do not tow with wheels down. Consult owner's manual for specific EPB emergency release procedure.
