🚨 2023 Mercedes-Benz G550 W463: Emergency Neutral
The 2023 G550 W463 uses a traditional electronic center console shifter with a push-button Park release and electronic shift-lock interlock controlled by the brake pedal switch.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (if battery has any charge) or ACC position.
- Locate the shift-lock override access: on the center console, look for a small rectangular cover/cap directly adjacent to the shifter base on the right side.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap.
- Insert the key blade or a small screwdriver into the exposed shift-lock override slot.
- While pressing down on the override mechanism, press the brake pedal (if possible) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If the shifter still won't move, maintain pressure on the override and have an assistant rock the steering wheel slightly while you attempt to shift.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.

Small rectangular cover cap on the right side of the shifter base on the center console; the override slot is directly beneath this cap.
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the electronic shifter will not function normally. You must use the mechanical shift-lock override. The steering wheel will be locked; do NOT attempt to tow with wheels down. If the override does not work with zero power, the transmission may need to be placed in neutral via the transmission itself (requires underbody access by a professional). For flatbed loading only.
