🚨 2025 Mercedes-Benz G550 W463: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 G550 W463 uses a traditional center-console mounted PRND lever shifter with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button without brake pedal, or use emergency key access if battery is dead).
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular opening covered by a removable cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal emergency key blade to pry off the small plastic cover cap.
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power is available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
  7. If the shifter still won't move, ensure you're pressing the override deep enough and apply steady pressure on the shifter release button while pulling the lever.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, you cannot shift electronically. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located under hood on right side) to at least accessory power, then use the override procedure. If jump-starting is impossible, the vehicle must be dragged onto a flatbed with all four wheels on the deck using wheel dollies or skates—do NOT tow with two wheels down.
