The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chocked before attempting any procedure
- Attempt to activate the vehicle by pressing the START/STOP button with the key fob nearby
- If 12V power is available, press and hold the brake pedal, then move the column stalk to N (neutral) position
- If 12V power is completely dead, access the 12V battery located under the hood in the right-side engine compartment
- Use an external jump starter or battery to provide temporary 12V power to the system
- Once 12V power is restored, press START/STOP button to activate vehicle systems (high-voltage drivetrain does not need to be ready)
- With brake applied, select N on the column stalk
- If electronic systems remain unresponsive even with 12V power, locate the shift lock override access - typically a small covered slot near the column stalk base or on the lower dash panel
- Insert a flathead screwdriver or the mechanical key blade into the override slot and press/hold while attempting to move the stalk to N
