🚨 2022 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 G63 AMG uses a console-mounted electronic shifter lever with integrated P-button on the end, part of Mercedes' 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission system.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot on the right side of the shifter base console, covered by a small rectangular cap marked with a key symbol.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the key blade or a small screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter lever toward you (from P to N).
- If the electronic shifter remains unresponsive with no power, the transmission will default to P-lock and the override may not fully release—you may need to use the auxiliary 12V jump points under the hood (positive terminal under red cap on right side, negative ground point nearby) to provide minimal power to release the shifter.
- Once in N, the vehicle can be moved or loaded, but the steering will remain locked without 12V power.
- For flatbed loading, leave in N with parking brake released; do not attempt to tow with wheels on the ground—the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system requires all four wheels off the ground or flatbed transport only.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the electronic shifter lock is extremely difficult to override mechanically. You must provide auxiliary 12V power via the jump points under the hood (positive under red cap on right side engine bay, negative ground nearby) to energize the shift interlock solenoid enough to release. Even minimal power from a jump pack or donor vehicle will allow the override to function.
