⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if it engages (may not work with dead battery).
- Turn the ignition to ON position if possible (insert key and turn, or use emergency key slot in start/stop button).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is on the right side of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular cap marked with a key symbol.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to pry off the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter to N (pull rearward once from P position).
- If successful, the shifter will move to N and the indicator will show neutral on the instrument cluster (if cluster has power).
- If vehicle has no power and shifter will not release, proceed to manual release procedure below.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the electronic shifter may remain locked even with override pressed. In this case: 1) Connect a jump pack or jumper cables to provide minimal 12V power, 2) Turn ignition to ON (do not need to start engine), 3) Use the override procedure above. If jump power is not available, the vehicle MUST be placed on a flatbed with wheels free-rolling or dollies—do NOT attempt to force the shifter, as the electronic mechanism can be damaged. The transmission has no manual release lever accessible from inside the cabin.
