⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button without brake pedal twice) to energize the shifter electronics.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Press the release button on the front of the shifter and move the lever to N (neutral).
- If the electronic shifter does not respond due to brake-light switch failure, locate the shift lock override access.
- Remove the small rectangular cover panel on the right side of the shifter base (passenger side of the shifter) by prying gently with a flathead screwdriver or trim tool.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter to N.
- If you have absolutely no electrical power, the DCT transmission may lock the shifter electronically—attempt jump-starting the 12V battery first before using the override.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cover on the right (passenger) side of the shifter base; override slot underneath accepts a screwdriver or key to mechanically release the lock.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter may remain locked even with the override. Jump-start the vehicle or connect an external 12V power source to the battery to energize the shifter module, then use the override procedure. The DCT relies on electrical systems to disengage park.
