🚨 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB35 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 GLB35 AMG uses a console-mounted electronic shift lever (P-R-N-D configuration) with electric shift-by-wire operation requiring 12V power for normal function.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the center console — it is a small rectangular cap directly to the right of the shifter base, near the trim edge.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the key blade or small screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you out of Park.
- Move the shifter to Neutral; the mechanical override bypasses the electronic interlock.
- If the electronic parking brake is engaged and you have no power, the rear wheels will remain locked — the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the rear wheels lifted or on dollies.
- Do NOT attempt to tow with rear wheels on the ground if the electronic parking brake cannot be released.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override will allow you to move the shifter to Neutral mechanically, but the electronic parking brake (EPB) will remain engaged on the rear axle. You cannot release the EPB without battery power. The vehicle must be flatbedded with rear wheels lifted, or rear wheels placed on dollies. Do not drag the rear wheels.
