⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly applied and wheel chocks are in place
- The GLB uses a column stalk shifter; locate the small shift lock override slot on the left side of the steering column shroud, below and slightly behind the shifter stalk
- Remove the small cover cap by carefully prying with a flathead screwdriver or trim tool
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press firmly
- While holding the override depressed, pull the shifter stalk toward you and down (toward D position) then continue down to N
- The transmission should now be in neutral; verify by attempting to roll the vehicle slightly
- If this fails, check for a secondary mechanical release near the transmission tunnel or center console area

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic stalk shifter will not function at all. You must use the shift lock override as described. If the vehicle has been sitting with a dead battery for extended periods, the transmission may be mechanically locked; consider jump-starting the 12V system momentarily to release the park pawl, then disconnect and use the override.
