The 2021 GLC300 X253 uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button without brake pedal twice) to provide power to the shifter mechanism.
- If ignition power is available, press the brake pedal and shift normally to Neutral.
- If the shift interlock is preventing movement, locate the small rectangular override cap on the console near the shifter base, typically on the right side or front of the shifter assembly.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- With the ignition ON and brake pedal pressed, insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If successful, release the override and remove the tool. Replace the cap.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular plastic cap near the shifter base on the console, typically to the right or forward of the shifter; exact position may vary by trim level.
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the electronic shifter interlock cannot be released conventionally. The override slot requires ignition power to function. You will need to jump-start the 12V battery (located in engine bay) to provide minimal power to the shift interlock system before using the override procedure. Once jumped, you only need enough power for the ignition circuit, not full engine start.
