The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (or use wheel chocks if brake is inoperable).
- Turn the ignition to ON/Accessory position if any 12V power is available (press START button twice without brake pedal, or use jump pack).
- Locate the shift-lock override cover: a small rectangular plastic cap on the console directly to the LEFT of the shifter base.
- Use a flathead screwdriver, ignition key, or small pry tool to gently remove the override cover.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, pull the shifter rearward toward you to move it from Park through Reverse to Neutral.
- Release the override once the shifter is in the N position; verify the instrument cluster shows 'N' if power is available.
- The vehicle can now roll; maintain brake pressure or chocking while moving.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the mechanical shift-lock override will still physically release the shifter. However, the transmission solenoid may not fully disengage Park without electrical power. If the override does not allow the shifter to move after several attempts, connect a jump pack or jumper cables to provide minimal 12V power to the system, turn ignition to ON, then use the override. If no power source is available, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground.
