🚨 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 GLE (V167 generation) uses a console-mounted column-style stalk shifter on the right side of the steering column.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Attempt to turn ignition to ON position if any battery power remains - the stalk shifter requires some electrical function
- Look for the shift lock override access - on V167, check the lower right side of the steering column shroud near where the shifter stalk emerges
- If an override slot exists, use a small flathead screwdriver or key blade to access it
- With complete power loss, the electronic stalk shifter may not mechanically release - you may need to jump-start the 12V battery to at least accessory power
- Once minimal power is available, press the brake and move the stalk to Neutral (push forward one position from Park)
- If the vehicle absolutely cannot get power, it must be placed on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground
Shift-lock override location
The V167 stalk shifter override location is not clearly documented in standard service procedures - check the lower right steering column shroud area
With zero electrical power
The electronic stalk shifter on V167 GLE is heavily dependent on electrical power. With completely dead battery, mechanical override may not be sufficient. Priority should be: 1) Jump-start 12V battery to get accessory power, 2) Use portable jump pack, 3) Flatbed tow only. The transmission itself can be placed in Neutral with power, but the electronic parking brake also requires power to release.
