The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ON position (or ACC if battery allows) - if completely dead, proceed without power
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the right side of the shifter base, covered by a small removable cap
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the plastic cap
- Press a small screwdriver, pen, or similar tool firmly into the override slot while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you to select Neutral
