The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully.
- Turn the ignition to ON (push start button without brake pedal, or use emergency key in slot to turn to position 2).
- Locate the shift lock override slot: on the left side of the column shifter stalk housing, near where it meets the column, there is a small circular cap or slot.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to press into the override slot while simultaneously moving the shifter down to Neutral.
- If the shifter will not move, ensure you are pressing firmly into the override—the release mechanism requires deliberate pressure.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can roll; maintain brake pressure or have chocks ready.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the electronic shifter will not function. You must provide power: use a jump box or jumper cables to the battery (under hood), or connect directly to the battery jump-start terminals (positive under hood, negative ground point). Once minimal power is present, follow the override procedure. If absolutely no power can be supplied, the vehicle cannot be shifted and must be winched onto a flatbed with wheels free or in tow dollies.
