🚨 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 X204: Emergency Neutral

The 2011 GLK350 uses a center console-mounted electronic gear selector lever (7G-TRONIC transmission) with a traditional PRND gate pattern.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 (accessories) or position 2 (ignition on) if the battery has any residual charge.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Press the shift lock override button: locate the small rectangular cover plate on the center console immediately to the left of the gear selector base (driver's side of the shifter).
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover plate.
  6. Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
  7. While holding the override down and maintaining brake pressure, move the gear selector from P to N.
  8. If the battery is completely dead and the electronic shifter will not respond, you may need to provide temporary 12V power via jump-starting or a portable battery pack to energize the transmission control module sufficiently to shift.
  9. Once in N, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter may not release even with the override slot engaged. Attempt jump-starting the vehicle or connecting a portable battery pack to provide minimal power to the transmission control module. If this fails, the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground or placed on dollies, as the transmission will remain locked in Park.
