The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Attempt to turn the ignition on (push START button without pressing brake) to position 2 (ON) if the 12V battery has any remaining charge—this may enable the shift-lock system.
- Locate the shift-lock override: on X167 models, look for a small rectangular cover or access panel on the center console immediately adjacent to the shifter base—typically on the right side or forward of the shifter.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal emergency key blade to carefully pry off the override cover.
