The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button without brake pedal) to energize the shifter electronics.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Move the shifter stalk down to position D, then press the button on the end of the stalk and pull toward you to engage Neutral.
- If the shifter remains locked and will not move, locate the shift lock override access—typically a small cover or slot near the base of the steering column shroud on the right side.
