The 2025 Maybach GLS uses a Mercedes electronic column-mounted shifter stalk on the right side of the steering column.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position (push start button without brake pedal, or use emergency key access if battery is completely dead).
- Locate the shift lock override slot: on the column shifter stalk itself, there is a small release button or slot typically covered by a small cap on the underside of the stalk assembly.
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or the emergency key blade to depress the shift lock release through the override slot.
- While holding the override release depressed, move the shifter stalk to Neutral position.
- If the electronic parking brake cannot be released due to power loss, the vehicle cannot be rolled and must be flatbedded.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic column shifter will not operate and the electronic parking brake cannot be released. Jump-start the 12V battery or connect external power to the jump-start terminal under the hood (right side near firewall) to restore minimal electrical function. If this is not possible, the vehicle must be flatbedded with all wheels off the ground.
