- IMPORTANT: Identify your vehicle generation first - R230 has traditional shifter gate, R231 has modern electronic lever with no visible gate
- For R230 (traditional): Apply parking brake, turn key to position 1 or 2, locate small rectangular override cover directly to the right of shifter base, pry off cover, insert key/screwdriver into slot, press down firmly while moving shifter to N
- For R231 (new generation): Apply parking brake, attempt to turn ignition to ON position, locate override access on right side of shifter base (small cover or slot), remove cover if present, insert small screwdriver into override hole, press down while lifting the shifter stalk up and forward to reach N position
