The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the electronic parking brake if functional.
- Attempt to enter the vehicle and press the brake pedal while pressing the START/STOP button without pressing the brake initially to enter accessory mode.
- If the 12V battery has sufficient charge for accessory mode, the shifter may respond: move the shifter stalk down (or press the console selector button) to engage Neutral.
- If the vehicle has completely dead 12V power, you will need to provide external power: connect a jump starter or jumper cables to the 12V battery (located in the rear trunk area on most SL models), then enter accessory mode and shift to Neutral.
- If external power cannot be provided and the electronic shifter remains locked, the vehicle cannot be shifted into Neutral without dealership-level diagnostics or manual transmission release (underneath vehicle—professional assistance required).
